An introductory dance class for 2 and 3 year olds designed to allow children to discover fundamental body movements and directional commands necessary to set the foundation for beginning ballet technique. We explore body movements such as “up,” “down,” and “side to side.” In creative movement we begin exploring rhythms and beats in music, as well as introduce basic ballet vocabulary. Props such as rhythm sticks, parachutes, and instruments are often used along with dance-focused games in order to ignite an early love for dance in your little one!
A class designed to introduce students to more formal ballet technique including ballet positions and beginning ballet terminology. Dancers will continue to work on refining rhythm and musicality through the use of age-appropriate listening activities, often facilitating the use of props. Dancers will be introduced to beginning stretching exercises with a focus on both improving and maintaining flexibility.
This class is an hour long perfect for students ages 3-5 years old. This class teaches the fundamentals of both tap and ballet. Class begins with tap, and transitions halfway through to ballet. Teachers will assist students in the transition. Props such as scarves, rhythm sticks, and instruments are often used.
Ballet 1 Students begin to learn the traditional ballet class structure with the introduction of basic ballet barre work. Students will continue to build on their understanding of ballet vocabulary, and continue to improve flexibility through age-appropriate stretching exercises. Class will consist of introductory barre work, stretching, and floor exercises.
Ballet 2 students will continue to build upon fundamental ballet terminology with a focus on fostering strength, flexibility, and balance. Students will learn to become more confident dancers and develop a deeper understanding of both the structure of a traditional ballet class as well as ballet culture.
Ballet 3 students should have a developed understanding of ballet terminology as well as fundamental positions of legs and arms. Dancers will learn continued concentration, flexibility, and endurance.
Ballet 4 dancers should have a strong understanding of ballet movement and body alignment. They should be developing more refined turn-out, epaulement (upper body movement),
and port de bras (arm placement). Class is structured as a traditional ballet class, and students should have a developed understanding of ballet terminology. Many students at this level are being invited to begin pointe or pre-pointe work.
Ballet 5 dancers should have extensive knowledge of ballet terminology and technique. Instructional exercises often become faster and/or more complex. At this level students are working on maintaining stamina, endurance, and flexibility while fostering and developing traditional ballet technique. These dancers should be participating in intermediate and advanced pointe combinations.
Teen is perfect for the dancer ages 12-18 that has never taken ballet before and wishes to start. It is a beginner class introducing the dancer to foundational ballet technique.
Tap dance is a percussive style of dancing for ages 6-18. This class includes a warm up where dancers get in tune to their shoes and warm up their ankles and feet, followed by across the floor work and center work to focus on technique in tap.
Tumbling tots is an introductory tumbling class. This class is geared towards students ages 3-5. This class will teach students the basic fundamentals of tumbling including (but not limited to) forward rolls, proper stretching technique, bridges, backward rolls, and cartwheels.
Acro is a class that focuses on acrobatic skills. Our acro classes are divided into 3 levels to accommodate our students needs. Students should expect to increase strength, flexibility, stamina, and technique in each skill. Common movements in acro classes include: cartwheels, handstands, round offs, front and back walkovers, backhand springs, aerials, and back tucks.
At Riverwalk Dance Collective, we offer 3 levels of jazz: beginner, intermediate, and advance. Our jazz has a focus of Gus Giordano technique. Students will be learning isolations, pirouettes, across the floor, and combinations through out the year.
Unleash your inner dancer in our high-energy Hip Hop class! This class combines dynamic choreography with the foundations of Hip Hop culture. Students will explore rhythm, freestyle, and a variety of street dance styles while building strength, flexibility, and confidence. Set to today’s hottest music, this class is a fun and creative way to develop coordination, body awareness, and a love for dance. Our adult classes are a beginner/intermediate level for those adults wanting to learn ballet and tap. Many of our students danced in their younger years, and want to get back into it. Others simply always wanted to dance, but never had the opportunity. These classes are open to adults of all ages, is fun, inviting, and provides an excellent workout while learning true classical ballet and tap technique.
